Did you miss the Tom of Finland exhibition in Fotografiska Tallinn? No worries! Read on – I promise there is good news ahead.

Opening of the Fotografiska in Tallinn was one of the biggest cultural events last year. Fotografiska has been making friends already for 10 years in Stockholm. It was such a great positive surprise last spring to hear that this center of photography would open a branch in the heart of Telliskivi! It quickly regained its place in Tallinn’s cultural offerings, as it quickly became one of the city’s most popular attractions.

An interesting and compact Tom of Finland

I managed to see the exhibition in Telliskivi at the very last minute. What made it especially interesting was that Touko Laaksonen was not really a photographer – he is best known for his drawings and paintings.

The images on display in Fotografiska had not been intended by the artist for the eyes of an outsider – they were only an aid and inspiration for his drawings and paintings. That is why it is interesting to see how many of the photographs on display now resemble Tom of Finland’s most famous works. The pictures in the exhibition are on display for the public for the first time, which is why Fotografiska’s exhibition is so significant. In addition to photographs, sketches and final works are also on display.

… no cause for grief: you can still go to the Tom of Finland exhibition!

A little consolation is promised to those from who didn’t see it on the spot: next Sunday (April 19) at 5 pm Fotografiska will organize a real-time guided tour!

The live tour is led by Fotografiska Tallinn’s guide Elo Aun. The curator of the exhibition, Berndt Arell, who has worked with Tom of Finland’s works for years, will join the tour via video call. You can join the tour via a live broadcast on YouTube. You can see it in the window below or in Youtube.

The tour is built to provide the audience with the most authentic exhibition experience possible. As a viewer, you can see close-ups of the images and listen to the stories behind the them. You can actively participate in the tour even if you are sitting at the screen of your phone or computer. This means that you can ask questions from the curator or guide using the Slido app. In addition, three guests will be able to ask their questions via video call.

And that’s not all!

I am one of those three guests! So I have the honor to ask a question from the curator Berndt Arnell in the live tour of the Tom of Finland exhibition. What a thrill! I haven’t decided yet what my question might be. Maybe I’ll decide it during the round. Or do you have to a question in mind that you would like me to ask?

Time of the live tour of the Tom of Finland exhibition: Sunday April 19 at 5 pm (GMT +3). The tour lasts about 45 minutes and is in English.
